Heaven Is at a Woman’s Feet

There’s an old saying found in many cultures, from Arabic proverbs to African wisdom traditions: “Heaven lies at the feet of your mother.” The phrase is both poetic and deeply spiritual, reminding us that the highest blessings, the deepest love, and the most powerful guidance in our lives often come from women—mothers, grandmothers, sisters, wives, and daughters.

When we truly pause to reflect, we see how this truth is woven into our everyday lives. Women carry the weight of creation—nurturing life in the womb, guiding children through their first steps, and often sacrificing their own needs to ensure others thrive. Whether she’s holding a child, holding down a household, or holding together an entire community, a woman’s presence is a quiet yet unmatched force.

In many spiritual traditions, women are seen as vessels of divine mercy, compassion, and unconditional love. To honor a woman is not simply to show respect—it’s to acknowledge her role as a life-giver, a healer, and a protector of the sacred. It’s understanding that gratitude, service, and kindness towards women bring blessings not only into our lives but into the world around us.

But this saying isn’t just about reverence—it’s also a challenge. In a society that often undervalues women, the phrase “Heaven is at a woman’s feet” calls us to act differently: to protect women, to listen to them, to celebrate them, and to dismantle the systems that harm them.

If heaven is truly at a woman’s feet, then how we treat women is how we treat heaven itself.

It’s time we remember that.
